Academic foundation post (AFP) Preparation

Over the past 5 years we have had a 100% success rate in our final year medical student scholars obtaining academic foundation programme posts – except in 2018 when one scholar was put onto the reserve list for an AFP. In that year, 3 of our scholars applied to the same deanery.

This is a very high success rate, given that AFPs are very competitive and offered to only 5% of medical graduates.

We will support you throughout this application process, from advice on the programme and helping you decide where to apply, to critique on your application form and interview coaching.

You will be given very personalised free 1-2-1 mentoring support for your Academic Foundation Programme Application.

CV Preparation

The Medical Student Awards Programme has been designed to focus students to ensure that they are undertaking projects and opportunities that are relevant to the AFP. If you have completed your GOLD Award, you should have a highly competitive CV that will give you an advantage when applying.

Application

As part of your AFP application, you will be expected to complete an application form. This form contains white space questions that are relevant to the post. The President and Vice Presidents who have successfully obtained academic posts will be happy to review your application and provide you with some detailed feedback. This is an unlimited feedback opportunity, to ensure that the application you finally submit, is at its best.

AFP Interview Preparation

At Medic Mentor there a numerous successful AFP applicants who have stayed on as Mentors. This wealth of expertise means that it is very likely that someone has applied to the positions that you are already interested in. We can provide you with interview preparation over skype, and if logisitcally possible, we will organise face-to-face interview practice as well. We want to ensure that all of our Scholars and Gold Awards students are as prepared as possible for their Academic Foundation Post interviews.

How much does this cost?

This application support is completely free but exclusively available for our Scholarship and Gold Award students.
